Biography

Dr. Thomas Rajan has been a contributor to Nephrology since 2009. He completed both his Internal Medicine Residency and Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine located in Worcester, Mass.

Nephrology runs in his family, so to speak. Dr. Rajan’s brother is also a practicing nephrologist in the Waco area. Dr. Rajan was drawn to Nephrology because of the cerebral nature of this specialty.

He has been in the practice of medicine for more than 18 years. Over the years, Dr. Rajan has honed his clinical skills and has an excellent clinical sense. His approach to patients has always been in a holistic way. He tries his best to see the patient as a whole and not just as separate organs. Dr. Rajan strongly feels that kidney failure is usually a reflection of the overall health of a patient. He loves to spend time with patients and answer all their questions. Dr. Rajan says the best care occurs when the patients are empowered with the right knowledge. This is one of the only specialties where the patient develops strong bonds especially when they become dialysis dependent. Dr. Rajan strongly believes that even after the patient goes on dialysis the patient needs to continue to work closely with their primary care physician. His general approach to patient care is “don’t do things on others you don’t want to be done on yourself.” Dr. Rajan is committed to an excellent experience for his patients from the moment they step into his office and takes seriously the complaints brought to his attention.

In his free time, Dr. Rajan enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing cricket, cooking, and reading.
